New Post: Added Folder to TFS structure, old labels broken?

We have a large code base in TFS with several labeled versions. We added a new folder to our TFS structure at the root. Now it seams we are unable to retrieve the versions labeled prior to adding this new folder.

Should we still be able to get using our "old" labels? - old meaning before we added the new folder?

Is there something we should have done to "update" the labels?

In the statement, "The frequency of continuous integration builds should be *less* than the build time to avoid too much queuing and loading of the build server", shouldn't the frequency of builds be more than the build time instead of less? I would think that if your frequency of integration is less than the build time, you would constantly be queuing up additional build requests faster than you can perform the builds. Am I just misunderstanding this?

Dear All
I have one question about TFS 2005. I have installed TFS2005 on one machine and Project Server 2007 is installed on another machine. Now I can access the Project Server 2007 from TFS 2005 Project. Now my question is that can we add the project plan in Project Management node which are visible in this node. Currently when I open the Project plan from this node then it open empty plan and after that I can access my plan against this project. I want to add my plan in this node which save on Project Server 2007. Any one know about it please let me know.

I am quite new to TFS, we just set up the TFS 2008.. where as I was just wondering where exactly are the aspx/vb code files physically stored...I mean coming from a VSS background ...I do not see my files anywhere on the TFS server..are the code files too stored in the SQL server along with the log(checkin/checkout) details. In VSS we could see the code files/folders physically exisiting on the VSS hard drive/project location. Where as for TFS, I see that workspace is just a client side mapping of the physical files from the server...and where does it exisit on the TFS server(physically). Thanks in advance...help appreciated.

We recently purchansed the TFS 2008 and we received the accompanying SQL Server Standard Edition CD with it.

My question is does this SQL Server Standard Edition(which came with TFS 2008) have any limitation with it, in other words.. is it in anyway different than the usual SQL Server Standard Edition?

This is a request we've received to allow more information to flow into a work item as it is being worked by developers.
What would be involved to customize the check in process so that the comment is inserted into the history along with / or instead of the "Associated with changeset ##" text?
Is this something that could be done with custom checkin policy - I suspect not since that is used to indicate go/nogo on checkin.

Microsoft is promoting TFS as a leading ALM - Application Lifecycle Management tool.

An ALM must contain a fundemental element for Requirements Management and developement, especially when embarking CMMI support from within the development framework.

This is of interest, however, I have greater "faith" in Code Patterns & Practices and the novice approach that is the true effort behind Codeplex. There is clearly a failure in doxology as the software community closes it's great wall on the future. How can "the future" of not but one or two decades past become entrenched in ignorance?

Concept developments requirements layering is still alive in closed circles of empirical powers behind high value and commodity priced software and firmware commercial developers. It seems ironic that Microsoft is an active part in revealing how closed the field is today and where stagnation introduces critical flaws. Isn't this the fear that was pronounced at the kingship of Microsoft. It appears the soothsayers at the coronation are the vile menace?

hi FabioG,

Don't stay with SourceSafe! I've been working with visual sourcesafe for years and years and i never really liked it although it suite you well if u don't know about other sourcecontrol or even Continious integration.

There is alot of tooling better as sourcesafe, think about subversion which is even free! :)

But Team Foundation Server is a solution to alot of problems, not only being a sourcecontrol integrated in visual studio but also:

- Template based working with for example MSF Agile
- Bug & issue tracking
- Buildserver
- Alot of reports and the ability to make custom reports.

As far as i can think about differences between sourcecontrol in vss and in tfs is:

- The speed, sourcesafe with pending changes can take an hour and TFS just a few seconds. That is all because sourcesafe is file based and TFS is on working against SQL Server.
- Ease, sourcesafe checks out in a working folder and that it. For versions u have branches and labels, but just isn't easy to work with. TFS is better integrated and for example.. it's alot easier to bugfix on an earlier version.
- check-in policies etc etc..
